Pre-made Pages and Page Kits

Just what you need to get caught up in your scrapbooking

Many local scrapbooking stores carry pre-made pages and page kits. There are also some home-based businesses that sell their products at expos, take special orders, and design for the local scrapbook shops. Some scrapbookers may think that these products take all the fun and creativity out of scrapbooking, but actually there are many benefits to the kits and pre-made pages.

Pre-made pages are just that; page layouts that are pre-assembled and ready to have your photos added to them. Page kits are themed kits that are pre-designed for you, but you put them together. The page kits come with a photo of the layout and a detailed instruction sheet. They include all the products you need to assemble them. There are many advantages to using pre-made pages and page kits. The main idea is that you have a base to start with, but tailor the page to be your own.

One main reason to use pre-made pages to save time. Some people feel that they are not creative and cannot find the time to design pages of their own. They are busy with everyday life and simply do not have the time to create amazing scrapbook pages. On the days when you have scrapper’s block, the pre-made pages allow you to still be productive. Also, if you are going to a crop, they cut down on the amount of things you need to pack. You do not have to spend as much time designing your page and coming up with ideas. The papers and embellishments are coordinated for you. This makes it easier to chat with friends while you are at a crop because you do not have to concentrate as much. Further, if you are behind on your scrapbooking, using these pages is a great way to catch up.

Pre-made scrapbook pages are handmade and come in a wide variety of themes. Some focus on special events, such as a birthday, holiday, wedding, travel, and baby. Other pages have a cute theme that will fit with a variety of photos, such as “apple of my eye” or “you are berry sweet.” Many scrapbook stores or designers take special orders on kits and pages. Any topic or color scheme you need is available to you.

Scrapbook techniques and products change quickly and it can be overwhelming. So, another benefit of pre-made pages is they help you keep up with the latest trends. Page kits and pre-made pages often include the newest embellishments. And remember you did not have to buy the entire set of embellishments, just the one that came with your page. This results in fewer items to store on your part. Also, pre-made pages often are created using the newest techniques. Kits give you a chance to try some techniques that you may not normally try. So keep in mind you may need specific scrapbooking tools, such as an eyelet setter, a hole punch, or a pair of scissors.

As you use your pre-made pages or kits, add your own special touch. The layout starts to take shape once you add your photos. By handwriting in a journaling box you make the page even more your own. You can go further and personalize your page by using some Stickles (glitter glue), rub-ons, ribbon or other extra embellishment like a flower, die cut or personalized title. You can also try inking. It is an inexpensive way to add texture, dimension, and style to your scrapbook page. Ink the edges of your scrapbook pages, journaling boxes, photo mats, or embellishments and you will see how this technique really makes the various elements stand out on the page.

Pre-made layouts and kits are available at most of your local scrapbook stores, scrapbook trade shows or expos, and have a price range from about $8.00 to $20.00, depending on the complexity of the layout. Usually the prices are comparable to buying all of the items included in the kits.

As you can see, pre-made pages and kits are a nice option to have on hand with your other scrapbooking supplies. They provide you with a time-saving, economical way to create current and personal page layouts. Try picking up one up the next time you visit your local scrapbook store or expo and enjoy the many benefits.
